That’s right, this Saturday night, you will hear from incredible artists that are now considered Yacht Rock artists, which include the following recording superstars such as LIONEL RICHIE, THE DOOBIE BROTHERS, HALL & OATS, KENNY LOGGINS, MICHAEL MCDONALD, DAVID PACK’S “AMBROSIA”, CHRISTOPHER CROSS, ABBA,PLAYER, GINO VANNELLI, BILL MEDLEY & JENNIFER WARNES, CAPTAIN & TENNILLE, and THE DOCKSIDERS, YACHT ROCK BAND….Who are all now Yacht Rock legends!
Yes, my friends, get used to this musical genre described as Yacht Rock because it is what we use to refer as to “Soft Rock” All of the names above brought us a ten-year run of extraordinary songwriting and artistry that have made an unbelievable resurgence because of an explosion of the music genre called “Yacht Rock”. The name was born because rich, yuppie yacht owners and cruise ships would play this music of the mid-70’s to the mid-80’s. The music genre became so huge in its comeback under the name “Yacht Rock” that even SIRIUS XM decided to have a Yacht Rock channel as part of their programming now!
And from LA to Vegas, to Europe…Yacht Rock tribute bands are the hottest thing! So, this summer on the beaches of Malibu to the Jersey Shore, Yacht Rock is the music of choice either under your beach umbrella, or if you’re lucky enough to have your own yacht!
Recently, I went to see the best and hottest Yacht Rock tribute band in Las Vegas called THE DOCKSIDERS, led by four-time Grammy nominee KEVIN SUCHER, and his wife ERIN SUCHER! They blew me away at their residency at a place called the “NOTORIETY” theatre on Fremont Street in Vegas, and after being part of the audience I stood for them in ovation with a packed house 8 times and I never had more fun!! So, I asked if they would join me at Mohegan Sun Hotel Casino Resort at their 10,000 seat arena, the Mohegan Sun Arena!
The Mohegan Sun Arena, by the way, has been voted as the Best Arena/Venue in the world for 10 straight years! Yes, I will be on stage singing with Yacht Rock’s greatest tribute band, THE DOCKSIDERS, on July 15th at the Mohegan Sun Arena!
I then got the idea to play their set list on my Music Radio 77WABC show as my playlist, but by the original artists mentioned above in the order that THE DOCKSIDERS play in their show. It turned out great! Yes, I pre-recorded this show because of my road commitments.
I listened to it before I wrote this article and I had such a ball listening to this show! I was singing ROBERT DUPREE’S “Steal Away” to AMBROSIA’S “Biggest Part Of Me”, to LIONEL RICHIE’S “All Night Long”! So, yes this Saturday night we will play all of the songs THE DOCKSIDERS and myself will be singing at Mohegan Sun Arena, but sung by the original artists is what you will hear!
