ROCK & ROLL CALL
Our Visitor this week is by an amazing artist who has remained relevant and creative throughout the Rock & Roll decades. DION DIMUCCI will talk to the Cuz about his new book – Dion, The Rock ‘N Roll Philosopher.
Dion was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 1989 and check out the cover of the Beatles Sgt. Pepper’s album you’ll see Bob Dylan and Dion.
Dion and the Belmonts made music history, emerging from the Bronx , NY in 1958 with their musical style that blended Doo Wop with that early Rock & Roll energy. The group’s breakthrough came with their first hit “I Wonder Why” in 1958. They quickly became teen idols, achieving national success with songs like “A Teenager in Love” and “Where or When”. Dion DiMucci, the group’s lead singer, would later become a successful solo artist, scoring hits like “Runaround Sue”, “The Wanderer”and “Abraham, Martin and John ”. Dion was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 1989. Interesting to note – the group’s original lineup performed together for only two years (from 1958 to 1960), however, to this day they remain one of the most important and popular groups in American popular music.
