ROCK & ROLL CALL
When you think about Staten Island, NY, images of one of our longest bridges. – The Verrazzano Bridge comes to mind ( it spans 4,260 feet, making it North America’s longest suspension bridge and the 18th longest globally). and one of our favorite doo wop groups – The Elegants. The lead singer of The Elegants VITO PICONE will visit us this Saturday 2/1/25. In 1958 he co-wrote and performed their chart topping hit, “Little Star.”
The Elegants toured often with legends like Buddy Holly and Chuck Berry and were among the first doo-wop groups to perform at prestigious venues like Carnegie Hall.
Vito Picone and Arthur Venosa wrote “Little Star” inspired by the classic nursery rhyme “Twinkle, Twinkle, Little Star.” They adapted its melody and incorporated only two lines from the original rhyme, it developed into a romantic doo wop song earning a Gold Record.
Vito appeared in the films “Goodfellas” and “Analyze This” and hosted the Staten Island TV show “Let the Good Times Roll”.
Join the Cuz and let’s welcome VITO PICONE to Music Radio 77 WABC.
