Hello music fans and friends!
A couple of weeks ago, I put together a show honoring THE VOCAL GROUP HALL OF FAME, and the reception from listeners was profound! People love our “Halls of Fame”, from the ROCK AND ROLL HALL OF FAME, to the BASEBALL HALL OF FAME… There really is a sense of greatness when you enter these Halls!
Well, there was a Hall Of Fame that I think should be revisited …THE VOCAL GROUP HALL OF FAME! Which, sadly, closed in 2008. When you think of the vocal groups that shape the music industry, it’s a shame that it does not continue… and by the reaction of my radio show, playing the music of groups that did get inducted into it is clear it needs to be funded and given a place for music lovers to enjoy.
Think of it… from Doo-wop to boy bands…which are not bands at all, but vocal groups! Such as the BACKSTREET BOYS, NSYNC, & BOYZ II MEN…Giant hit record makers all around the world, and true game changers in the 90’s! And their sound can all be traced back to Doo-wop vocal groups like THE MOONGLOWS and THE FIVE SATINS, and even before that…THE INK SPOTS!
They were huge in the 40’s. So, I felt let’s honor THE VOCAL GROUP HALL OF FAME until someone out there helps funding so they can reopen it for all of our great singing groups! But until then, I will continue to pay tribute to these great artists on this historic radio station, Music Radio 77 WABC, where most, if not all, of these groups found their launching pad into music history! So, join me this Saturday night for Vocal Group Hall Of Fame: Part Two! Groups like THE BEE GEES to THE TRAVELING WILBURYS…from the CHI-LITES to THE BLUE NOTES…from QUEEN to THE BEATLES…if they sing harmony, they qualify! It’s an awesome journey through the VOCAL GROUP HALL OF FAME, and I know you will love it and enjoy it! Yes, all this and more this Saturday Night! A not to be missed show…Right here on Music Radio 77WABC!
