Our guest this week is – FRANK MAFFEI original member of DANNY & THE JUNIORS.

Danny and the Juniors were true Pioneers of Rock and Roll. They were formed in Philadelphia in 1955 and were one of the first successful Rock & Roll groups. They were originally known as the Juvenairs – their manager suggested their name change.

The group consisted of Danny Rapp, Dave White, Frank Maffei, and Joe Terranova.

Their breakthrough came with the song “At the Hop,” originally titled “Do the Bop.” Dick Clark wisely suggested that the word “Bop” was old fashioned and that “Hop” was a better match. The song was reworked and became a massive hit, reaching number one on the charts in 1958. This success was followed by another hit, “Rock and Roll Is Here to Stay” and my favorite (a B-side) “Sometimes When I’m All Alone”.

Danny & the Juniors were inducted into The Vocal Group Hall of Fame in 2003, and the group was inducted into the Broadcast Pioneers of Philadelphia Hall of Fame on November 22, 2013.

Cousins, let’s welcome a Doo Wop original to our Show – Frank Maffei.

– CB.
