ROCK & ROLL CALL

Did you know that EARL LEWIS (Channels) wrote “The Gleam In Your Eye” when he was only 10 years old. That was only the beginning- he wrote the “The Closer You Are” when he was 15. Speaking of child prodigies. Earl Lewis is certainly one of the most prominent artists in the evolution of doo wop music. He is best known as the lead singer and songwriter for the iconic 1950s vocal group, The Channels.
The Channels were formed in 1956 from the merger of two groups: the original Channels and the Lotharios. Earl Lewis and Clifton Wright joined Edward Doulphin, Billy Morris, and Larry Hampden to create one of doo wops earliest hallmark groups. Their five-part harmony and Earl’s unmistakable falsetto made The Channels the leader of the pack.

In recent years, Earl Lewis authored an autobiography titled “How D’Ya Like Me Now? The Earl Lewis & The Channels Story,” chronicling his journey through music history. His contributions to R&B and doo-wop have solidified his status as an icon in American music.

Let’s welcome EARL LEWIS to our MusicRadio broadcast this Saturday 4/19/25.
