Hello everybody… or should I say Hello EVERYBOBBY!!!
To BOBBY DARIN fans that is! You see, WAYNE NEWTON and myself will be on stage at the new Hard Rock Hotel
in Gary, Indiana this Saturday night, so, I thought it would be appropriate to revisit THE BOBBY DARIN STORY, which has been the most requested show of all the shows we have done! By the way, the show first aired in 2021 so I thought it was the right time to air it again this Saturday night…without interviews, and with added performances by BOBBY DARIN!
And the reason it is the right night to fulfill your request is because if it were not for BOBBY DARIN, there would be no NEWTON or no ORLANDO!
Last week, my guest was WAYNE NEWTON, and he told us on the air that “Danke Schoen” was to be BOBBY DARIN’s follow up record to his award winning, million-selling record “Mack The Knife”, but BOBBY gave it up to WAYNE because he knew it would be a hit and that it would be the kickstart for a very young and super talented WAYNE NEWTON!
BOBBY DARIN not only gave the song to NEWTON, but he even produced the giant million-seller “Danke Schoen “, giving NEWTON the birth of a major recording career and the start of what is now a legendary career for WAYNE! And now in my case…DON KIRSHNER, who at the time in 1961 was a best friend and partner of BOBBY DARIN, brought BOBBY to work and mentor me as a stage performer, and DARIN’s TV variety show was produced by the TV giant production team that was SAUL ILSON & ERNIE CHAMBERS for the NBC network.
So, BOBBY along with his musical director BOB ROSARIO, convinced those same producers to do the TONY ORLANDO & DAWN variety show for the other giant network, CBS! So, the collective karma of WAYNE and I on stage together at the Hard Rock Casino in Indiana, I felt it would be great to way pay tribute to the man….BOBBY DARIN…Who had so much to do with WAYNE NEWTON and myself!
So, for those of you who have been waiting for this show to happen again…the time is now! And for those of you who have been with us for these most recent shows, you are all in for a treat!
