8-1-cousin-article

Hey Cousins!

Here’s a fun Rock & Roll trivia quiz.

They all went to grade school together, (Clue- New Orleans) and were called “Little Miss and the Muffets”.

Their debut single was released- they changed their “Muffet” name to …THE DIXIE CUPS and their debut song hit the top of the charts.

It’s 1964 and “Chapel of Love” flies to number one and earns a gold disc. (NOTE -Jeff Barry, Ellie Greenwich and Phil Spector originally wrote Chapel of Love for The Ronettes). The Dixie Cups consisted of sisters Barbara Ann and Rosa Lee Hawkins and their cousin Joan Marie Johnson.

The hit single Chapel of Love by The Dixie Cups was ranked No. 279 on Rolling Stone’s’ list of The 500 Greatest Songs of All Time. They also had several other hits, including “People Say” (1964),”You Should Have Seen the Way He Looked at Me” (1964), “Little Bell” (1965), and “Iko Iko” (1965).

Dixie Cup BARBARA HAWKINS visits us this Saturday (August 3, 2024) – on MusicRadio WABC.
