Hello everyone!
This show pays tribute to my pals FRANKIE AVALON, FABIAN, and the late, great BOBBY RYDELL. They are the very successful touring trio called THE GOLDEN BOYS. So, an idea popped into my head I asked myself, “Ok, now what constitutes a Golden Boy?”, the immediate answer that came to me was this… that FRANKIE AVALON, FABIAN, and the late BOBBY RYDELL!
The three super talented and super handsome hit recording artists are what defines a Golden Boy!! “Hmmm, you know, that might make for an interesting theme and fun show!” So, let’s first ask who and what is a Golden Boy.
An artist that is also super handsome, as well as super talented… singers with the ability to make the young, female fans scream the moment a Golden Boy hits the stage….just as AVALON, FABIAN, and RYDELL always have!! Yes!!! Then I asked myself…was there a Golden Boy before AVALON, FABIAN, and RYDELL?
The first one in my opinion ,would have to be, young FRANK SINATRA back in the 1940’s!Incredible singer, young blue eyes, and was super handsome! His fans, known as “Bobbysoxers”, went wild for him by screaming, and some got so excited that they were brought to tears!
Yes, SINATRA in the 1940’s, in my opinion, was the industry’s first Golden Boy. But, remember that title had not even been invented yet…So, then who would be the NEXT Golden Boy after SINATRA? Well, I would have to say that has to be ELVIS! In 1954, there again the girls were deafening with their screams the moment ELVIS hit the stage! Yes, let’s classify ELVIS a Golden Boy for sure!
And then came those three, incredibly handsome, charismatic, sexy singers who recorded hits, and become movie stars with all three from Philly. You now have the three bonafide Golden recording artists, who without a doubt, created and earned the name The Golden Boys . They had it all…
hits, the looks… super handsome… sexy, talented Golden Boys in the names of…FRANKIE AVALON, FABIAN, and BOBBY RYDELL!! Also. you can now include LOU CHRISTIE, who wore those Golden shoes after BOBBY RYDELL passed away. Oh, I forgot the “Fab Four” from Liverpool…without a doubt Golden Boys!!!!
And on this show, FRANKIE introduces a new Golden Boy, TOMMY CONO, of Wildwood, New Jersey!
Yes, the same Wildwood that the original Golden Boy, the late, great BOBBY RYDELL sang about…WILDWOOD, NJ! He is all of what a Golden Boy can and should be, and this Saturday night we play a new version of the classic from the major motion picture “GREASE”, “Beauty School Dropout” and you’ll hear the newest Golden Boy who is one great singing talent with an amazing voice!
