10-15-cousin-article

Hey Cousins!

I have invited FREDDY “BOOM BOOM” CANNON to visit us this Saturday. W

here did the “Boom Boom” nickname come from? Probably from his dynamic forceful musical style- and his attachment to early Rock & Roll heroes- Little Richard, Bo Diddley and Chuck Berry – we’ll find out.

Freddy’s musical journey began in the mid-1950s when he played lead guitar on the G-Clefs’ single “Ka-Ding Dong,” (which reached #24 on the Billboard Top 100). In 1958, he formed Freddy Karmon & the Hurricanes, gaining popularity in the Boston area.

“Boom Boom’s” breakthrough came in 1959 with “Tallahassee Lassie,” a song based on a poem written by his mother. The single reached #6 on the Billboard Hot 100 and launched his career as a solo artist.

Throughout his career, he charted more than 20 times on Billboard’s pop singles chart between 1959 and 1966: including –

• “Way Down Yonder in New Orleans” (#3 in both US and UK)
• “Palisades Park” (#3 in US, written by Chuck Barris)
• “Abigail Beecher”
• “Action!” (theme song for Dick Clark’s “Where the Action Is”)

Freddy became a frequent guest on popular music television shows, including “Shindig,” “Hullabaloo,” and “Midnight Special”. He also holds the record for the most appearances on Dick Clark’s “American Bandstand” with 110 performances.

Cousins, this will be a fun filled visit,
FREDDY “BOOM BOOM” CANNON
With the Cuz this Saturday 10/19.
