ROCK & ROLL CALL 📞📞
……”I Love the Flower Girl”…..I find myself singing that song occasionally. The Cowsills have always been special to me. They had great admiration for the Beatles- and were inspired to form a family band. In the early ‘60’s Cowsills brothers Billy, Bob, Barry and John began performing together. They played at local venues – school dances and clubs in the Newport Rhode Island area.
Eventually, their mother Barbara and other siblings joined the parade. They developed a close harmonious pop sound – and THE COWSILLS were ready to hit the charts. They were unique- they were real family and not a fictional TV made up family. Their regular gigs at local clubs allowed them to hone their skills by playing popular songs of the day, including Beatles covers.
They hit the charts running with – “Indian Lake” – Hair”(from the Broadway show)~ – “We Can Fly” – and “The Rain, The Park and Other Things .”(formerly, “I Love the Flower Girl”)
The Cowsills performed alongside legends like Ray Charles, Stevie Wonder, The Byrds, The Beach Boys, and have appeared with me several times on the Air and at our PNC Bank Theater shows.
We welcome members of the Cowsill family to our WABC family this Saturday 11/9/24. You are invited to this family reunion.
