ROCK & ROLL CALL
LITTLE ANTHONY the celebrated lead singer of Little Anthony and The Imperials will visit us this Saturday 11/23/24. Anthony Gourdine’s distinctive falsetto combined with his emotional acting ability skyrocketed the group to stardom. The group was formed in 1958 and helped set the path from Doo Wop to Rhythm and Blues. Their ability to adapt to popular soul trends, while they maintaned
their unique vocal style, allowed them to remain relevant during the British Invasion and Motown’s rise.
Two examples of this style was “Going Out Of My Head” and “Hurt So Bad”. Little Anthony and The Imperials hits consistently captured the music charts, including:
Tears on My Pillow” (1958) – Their first major hit, reaching #2 on the R&B chart and #4 on the pop chart, “Shimmy, Shimmy, Ko-Ko Bop” – A hit that capitalized on a popular dance craze, “I’m on the Outside (Looking In)” (1964), “Goin’ Out of My Head” (1964), “Hurt So Bad” (1965), “Take Me Back” and I’m Falling in Love With You” (1974).
Little Anthony was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 2009, marking a remarkable career spanning decades.
Let’s welcome LITTLE ANTHONY to WABC MusicRadio.
