Hello friends and music lovers!
Remember..it all started with early DOO-WOP, ELVIS, and there you have ROCK AND ROLL! This historical music radio station 77 WABC was a very important part of The Geneses of Rock and Roll, so to illustrate that fact as to what part this radio station had in the birth of R&R, I looked into WABC’s history book and look at their playlist and charts .and so I picked their Top 20 on the week of September 5, 1961, which is only six years after “Heartbreak Hotel “, ELVIS PRESLEY’S first hit… and that has become the marker as the birth of Rock and Roll! So, it is really interesting the mix of song styles that was on that hit record chart…everything from novelty songs to pure R&B, to Teen Idols like BOBBY VEE’S “Take Good Care Of My Baby”, and by the way…that million-seller was written by a teenager in the name of CAROLE KING and her husband GERRY GOFFIN!
Even novelty songs made the Top 20…It will amaze you what the hits were on WABC’s Hits List Top 40 chart in September of 1961! Also, on my show this week we have the honor to interview an artist of the first kind, a music historian, and a film maker…KENNY VANCE! His movie is the iconic film “Eddie And The Cruisers”! Oh and by the way, he also is one of members of the iconic hit- record making group JAY AND THE AMERICANS!
This man is a walking, talking hit record, hit movie maker, history book on legs! Yes, I am so proud to have him on the show!
